Laureus World Sports Awards 2012: Bear Grylls, Lennox Lewis, Bar Rafaeli and Alan Hansen

Incidentaly, did anyone else watch that documentary about Oscar Pistorius that was on a couple of years ago where he just came across as a bit of an arsehole? It was something about the fact that he wanted to run in the regular olympics, got told that the main reason he couldn't was because his leg replacements actually gave him a huge advantage over other runners, and then accused everyone of being anti-disability. Or maybe that was just us.

AARP Movies for Grownups 2012: Meryl Streep sympathises with Margaret Thatcher

Which is why the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) held its Movies For Grownups film awards ceremony last night, despite having actually announced the winners several weeks ago. It's just safer that way.

Also, one of the nicest things about old people is that they don't give a shit what they say. Here's Meryl Streep on Margaret Thatcher:

'Margaret Thatcher was kicked out of office, forcibly retired, a situation that happens to many here in America.’

Evening Standard Film Awards 2012: Michael Fassbender wins, doesn't turn up

There were only ten categories, so all in all it was probably short but sweet night. Well, sweet as in it being nice that Olivia Colman won a prize for getting peed on and spat in the mouth by Eddie Marsan. Elsewhere, The Guard picked up Best Comedy, Senna was named Best Documentary and We Need To Talk About Kevin won Best Film. We've never heard of Black Pond, but its directors won Most Promising Newcomers. Must be a sequel to Black Swan...

Golden Camera Awards 2012: Scarlett Johansson wins prize, didn't release film in 2011

Maybe Germany had a different release schedule, but we've just looked at Johansson's CV and it seems that her last film (Iron Man 2) came out in 2010, then her next one (We Bought A Zoo) is set for next month, so we're not really sure why she won the Best Actress prize, but we're sure she deserves it. Meanwhile, Denzel Washington got the Best Actor gong. We guess the Germans must've really liked Unstoppable (AKA No Brakes on a Train), since that's all he did last year.

Directors Guild of America Awards 2012: Aniston loses, Curb Your Enthusiasm wins

Actually, who knew Aniston actually directed a show with Demi Moore last year? Obviously it didn't win (despite being for charity), but Curb's Palestinian Chicken episode did - and that's fine by us.

Oscar nominations 2012: No real surprises, Clooney and Pitt back on top

Even though the film didn't feature, it's great to see Nick Nolte up for Best Supporting Actor for Warrior as well as W.E. being nominated for nothing except costume design. No Gnomeo and Juliet either. Unfortunately, despite being appalled by Tree Of Life (don't start that all up again) it seems to have accrued a few nominations, and even Harry Potter managed to scrape one together (its first?). Finally, we'd really like to know what Paradise Lost 1 and 2 were like. Unsusual for the third film to be the most popular...

Noel Gallagher wins NME's Godlike Genius, no word yet from Liam

Either way, both Liam Gallagher and his minions are going to be pretty pissed off about Noel winning the NME's Godlike Genius award this year. After all, not only did Liam write and perform all of Oasis' songs, he also let Noel take the credit. It's true. Noel had this to say in a recently released statement...

"I would like to thank NME for bestowing upon me such a great accolade,"

"I have dreamt of this moment since I was 43 years old. I accept that I am now a genius, just like God."

Producers Guild Awards 2012: The Artist wins again, Glee still classed as a comedy
