Simon Cowell decided to take The X Factor stateside and launch in summer 2011. The X Factor USA had much gossip and controversy before it had even started due to the selection of the judging panel. The original judges consisted of Simon Cowell, Paula Adbul, producer and record executive LA Reid and Cheryl Cole, who Simon had brought over from the UK version, with Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones presenting. It emerged that Cheryl had been sacked as judge and Nicole Scherzinger would replace her as judge, with different reasons cited, including audiences not understanding her Newcastle accent.
