National hero Jarv started his band Pulp at art school but had many years being relatively unknown apart from the odd John Peel session before actually selling some records with His N Hers in 1994. Loved for Jarvis's lyrics about "single mothers and sex" and their charity shop chic, Pulp were the cooler Britpop alternative to Blur or Oasis. The lanky northerner wiggled his bum in from of Michael Jackson at the Brit Awards in 1996, causing outrage akin to if he has committed blasphemy . Of late, Jarvis has been involved in suitably weird side projects including dressing up as a skeleton and calling himself 'Darren Spooner'. As of summer 2011, Pulp have reunited. Hooray!
