His name's John. And his name's Edward. And together they are the most irritating twins ever to exist on planet Earth.

When the pair first appeared on our screens for their X Factor audition, we all breathed a sigh of relief and thought "there's no way they're getting through, we'll never have to see them again". Enter Louis Walsh. Much to our disgust (but not surprise), he took them through to the live finals and soon they were the most talked about pair since Jordan. Claiming to be inspired by the Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, it was their horrifying (but somehow fascinating) performance of the latter's 'Oops, I Did It Again' which kick-started the Jedward craze.

The human cheese-strings were finally voted off in week seven, but that demise was the catalyst for their media ascent and we have never been able to escape their frightening personalities since. With their first single (a mind-blowing collaboration with Vanilla Ice) reaching number two in the charts, Jedward are well on their way to world domination despite being dropped by their record label within weeks of the release. 

Jedward represented Ireland in the 2011 Eurovision song contest, and didn't do all too badly, sadly.
