British institution Sir Michael Caine left school to do a bunch of 'salt of the earth' cockney jobs before joining the army, fighting in the Korean war and then coming back to start out as an assistant stage manager before starting acting.

Caine worked on many TV dramas before getting a part in Zulu. He then went on to star in many great movies such as The Italian Job, Get Carter and Alfie. Caine rocketed himself into megastardom as an English 'bloke'.

Caine showed he still has his cockney credentials starring in Harry Brown.
He is currently filming The Dark Knight Rises as he resumes the role of Alfred Pennyworth.
