Cinema for Peace: Sean Penn, Leo DiCaprio, Julia Roberts and Hilary Swank

Although, as Sean will tell you, there are much better ways to raise money than simply beating up your family. Not that that's not a good way, but in terms of bruises per dollar raised it's just not enough. Satisfaction, that's pretty much all you get. But it's money THE KIDS need, so instead old Seanipoos held a Cinema for Peace event in LA on Saturday night.

amfAR Inspiration Gala attended by Sinead O’Connor, Debbie Harry, Colin Farrell and more

The Gala, raising money for amfAR’s tireless work in the field of AIDS research, was also attended by Estelle, wearing a dress previously seen on Cheryl Cole, Selma Blair rocking a bad girl look in a virginal white shift, Colin Farrell in a slightly silly hat and Ryan Kwanten from True Blood dressed as Colonel Sanders. Ubiquitous philanthropist Sean Penn was also there, making up for the lack of Susan Sarandon and/or an Obama. A decent crop of celebs at a very worthwhile charity bash.

Tree of Life: answering questions you didn't ask

Tree of Life supposedly concerns itself with life, loss and growing up. It stars Brad Pitt as a father, Sean Penn as his adult son and relative newcomer Jessica Chastain as his wife. The plot revolves around Pitt, Chastain and Penn finding out Penn's brother has died, forcing them to take a look back at their lives together, from Penn's birth up until the age of 12 or 13.

Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn split, 'twas a love too beautiful for this cruel world

Don't pretend that you don't care. It's easy to see through that steely, nonchalant composure you put up whenever we break this kind of news. While you may not have any connection to these two at all, not particularly like her as an actress and find him to be a fairly reprehensible human being, that's no reason not to be interested in their super privileged lives.

Cannes Film Festival: Sean Penn refusing to leave, Tamara Beckwith wears a banana

Joining Sean on the red carpet at some of the wonderful films they're showing right now to celebrities and boat people in Cannes were Charlotte Gainsbourg, Eva Herzigova, Grace Hightower, Jodie Foster, John Hurt, Karolina Kurkova, Kiera Chaplin, Kirsten Dunst, Laetitia Casta, Milla Jovovich, Olivia Grant, Robert De Niro, Ronnie Wood, Rosario Dawson, and Uma Thurman. All wearing their finest gear, all looking as dull as ditchwater.

All except Tamara Beckwith, who wore a hula inspired dress and paired it with a banana purse. Always said she was a keeper.
