Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has been spared from the sack after it was revealed he called his dance partner Laila Rouass a 'Paki'. Carol Thatcher is said to be analysing the smallprint.

The comment came during a one-on-one training session (I can't imagine who leaked the story though... erm). Despite Carol Thatcher being booted off the One Show for her golliwog remark earlier this year, the BBC have said he won't be reprimanded.

The remark - made a fortnight ago - comes after Anton previously asked: "You're not a terrorist, are you?" on learning of her background. Viewers were unaware of the row during last night's show.

Anton apologised for the comment:

"I am not a racist and I do not use racist language. During our rehearsals, Laila and I have exchanged a great deal of banter - entirely in jest - and two weeks ago there was an occasion where this term was used between the two of us."

"There was no racist intent whatsoever. I apologise unreservedly for any offence my actions might have caused."

Laila, who has a Moroccan father and an Indian mother said:

"I accept his apology. I am really enjoying the show and dancing with Anton and I hope that we can go as far as possible in the competition."

In other news, Anton's back hair has been mooted as a potential solution for the elderly heating crisis this winter, and has already been used to stuff 85,000 duvets.
