Dennis Hopper
Oh Mummy!
Sun, 28/03/2010 - 10:58 by HM writerDennis Hopper was finally awarded his Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday and was applauded by Viggo Mortensen, Laurence Fishburne and David Lynch, who directed him in Blue Velvet, arguably his best role (after Waterworld, obviously)...
And King Koopa in Super Mario Brothers - The Film...
The 73-year-old is currently embroiled in a divorce battle with wife number five Victoria Duffy, with whom he's been married to for 14 years. They're engaged in custody battle over daughter Galen and last week the actor accused her of stealing his £1 million art collection.
Viggo Mortensen, who starred alongside Hopper in Boiling Point, said his love for the star was "unconditional".
He added:
"We have continued to share a mutual curiosity in our artistic way of living life. Dennis Hopper has remained a constant source of ideas, humor and inspiration. He keeps himself honest and those around him honest. His candor and his modesty inspire fearlessness in others – this sets him apart as an artist and as a friend."
Hopper was helped onto the stage and explained his bandages by saying:
"Yesterday, I got up and out of the house and someone yelled, "Hey Dennis!" I thought I recognized the voice, so I kept walking and turned around but I didn't see the little ridgeline in the road and I took a terrible fall because I have no muscle. So I fell directly on my face, and I had my glasses in my hand. I got pretty screwed up. I know you (the paparazzi) have a tough job, but sometimes you should be a little more sensitive.
"Everyone here today that I've invited [has] enriched my life tremendously. They've shown me a world that I would never have seen being a farm boy from Dodge City, Kansas, and learning things I would never have learned.
"Everything I've learned in my life I learned from you and the wonderful world that I traveled and saw...well, I got it all from you. This has been my home and my school. And I love all of you. I just want to thank you. This means so much to me, and thank you very much, everyone."
Yesterday it was reported that Hopper's prostate cancer was terminal.

Bit like Ronnie Biggs and that guy who blew up the Lockerbie plane, they're all still going strong.
..
The Walk of Fame? But he's been around for years, even my cat knows him, and he finally gets a star when he's moments from kicking the bucket? It would have been less of an insult if they'd bunged him a few quid for his coffin.
I really hate myself for this:but it looks as if his "best performance" is mirroring his final one.
What,too early ?
More kudos than the shit that we see festooned on these pages. Who the fuck will remember Robert Pattinson, Hayley Pantyliner and Zac Moron in 20 years?
Not a lot you can say really.
I was thinking he'd died, but then remembered he was merely "entering final days" as of....January. That's a lot of final days. Bless 'im.
