Gorillaz have been announced as the replacement headliners for Friday night at Glastonbury 2010 after U2 had to cancel due to Bono's back injury

Michael Eavis stold the Guardian:

"This is going to be Gorilllaz' only UK festival appearance, and it'll be a massive audio visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow.

I'm very excited about Gorillaz' show coming here because they're so open to guests and collaborations. The alchemy of Friday's show is going to be astonishing, a perfect, contemporary way to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations.

I am so grateful for the enthusiasm of the media and the whole of the music industry for their willingness and eagerness to support us in what could have been a crisis."

There were rumours that it was going to be either Led Zepellin (amazing) or Coldplay (not amazing) - But what do you reckon? Good choice?

  • A bunch of puppets replacing a bunch of muppets, seems fair enough.

  • At night, outdoors, projected on a big screen, the Gorillaz will probably be quite a spectacle. Three good headliners. Annoying festival these days though. Too big and crowded to get between the stages very easily. And when it rains you're fucked. (My mate got 'mud poisoning' a year or two ago and trying to make your way through deep mud over those distances is shocking).
