Disney: 'Not enthusiastic about Gnomes'
Mon, 31/01/2011 - 11:18 by John Hill

Gnomeo and Juliet, a new film based on the classic Shakespeare play Othello, has arrived in the UK for its premiere and we couldn't be more excited. Both Boy George and Stephen Merchant were there, making it the biggest celebrity event in living memory, no exception.

The film, masterminded by Sir Elton John and his partner David Furniture had its world premiere last week, but now it's the UK's turn and oh boy was it a big one. Liz Hurley turned up with her child, poor old Gail Porter seems to have had a bit of a follicular relapse and Kate Garraway looked a little fragile. If only she had been blinking in the pics, we could have accused her of being drunk. Thanks Kate, thanks a bunch.

Speaking about the film, El-Ton said he can't wait to show it to his brand new baby (via The Press Association):

"We'd love to make more kids' films. This has been really wonderful. We're very excited that in four or five years' time Zachary will be able to see this film."

"It's taken 11 years because Disney weren't enthusiastic about gnomes at one point and we persuaded them to stay with it.

"Several times it's been resuscitated from the death bed and when you love something - Lion King took 10 years and Toy Story was rejected initially - we believed in it and we stuck with it, and we're really happy with the results.

"I rang up Michael Caine and he was very generous, I asked Ozzy Osbourne. We didn't have any problem casting, people seem to want to do these kind of things."

You old show off, El-Bone.

As it happens we also have a film we're making, called The Blaming of The Crew, which is based entirely on Christian Bale's work on Terminator. We've got Mel Gibson voicing Christian Bale, and a digitally remastered Oliver Reed playing the lighting guy. Very exciting stuff. Quite xenophobic though, as it turns out.
