James Brown's racist rant, apparently learnt nothing from Hairspray

What's going on in Kate Moss' friendship group? Fresh from John Galliano ill-advisedly voicing his opinions on gassing and Naomi Campbell getting embroiled in a race war over a bar of chocolate, comes the news that her BFF James Brown is in in trouble for hurling racial abuse at a black presenter during last weeks BAFTA awards.

Brown is said to have repeatedly called Ben Douglas a 'nigger' backstage at the ceremony and referred to his partner as a 'nigger's bitch', before proclaiming that 'a lot of my cousins have been with blacks'. Oh, that's alright then, James.

Douglas subsequently wrote up his ordeal for the Daily Mail, though chose initially not to out Brown, instead simply referring to him as 'a curly haired man' and 'friend of Kate Moss'. Despite the fact that these are probably the only two things the public actually know about James Brown, he stayed anonymous for a whole 24 hours, before issuing a statement saying:

'I'd like to make a public apology to Mr Douglas, to his friends and to Bafta for my offensive and stupid comments. The simple truth is that I had drunk far too much on the evening and my behaviour was totally unacceptable. Everyone who knows me knows I am not racist whatsoever.'

Perhaps him and GalliaNO have the same writer on standby for defending any racist chatter that might pop out after a couple of Moet chasers, as apparently these days one shandy is enough to turn anyone into Alf Garnett.

We're not sure the apology will be enough to mend bridges here though, as Mr Douglas has subsequently called Brown 'a buffoon'. Come on Ben, there's no need to go below the belt...

The deeper and more worrying thing is that these people are fashion leaders, in terms of design and where the trends are going etc.
They form and illustrate our culture.
The next thing you know, there won't be any non-white models on the front cover of Vogue.

Excellent point, well made. When I get pissed, I say a lot of offensive things, but I'm never racist. Why? Because I'm not a racist person. Nobody automatically says racist things when drunk, apart from actual racists. If you're shouting the N word at people when you're hammered, it means you think the N word is OK when you're sober, but you're not brave enough to say nasty things. But you're still a racist arsehole.

What an arsehole. And not just for the obvious. He was trying to look hard and failed miserably. The problem with James Brown is that he's a barber with business cards who networked and got lucky. His true role in life is that of the lackey - the tragic little fart who laughs at your jokes and who fetches the drinks. And pays for them. A "Yes Boss" rather than a real boss.

I'd never heard of his tosser until very recently when I saw him on his talent show and heard he was supposed to be famous. He spent most of his time on the show being pretentious and making the contestants cut hair like Helen Keller. What a twat.
