Kanye West seems to be having what could be described as  a psychotic break. It could be, if it hadn't been going on for almost five years. The problem with ol' KW is that he's Icarused, except he didn't get his wings burned, he flew so close to the sun (metaphorically speaking of course, although the idea of Kanye going into space is an enticing one) his entire brain was irreversibly irradiated and now all he can do is mumble about Taylor Swift and racism, all the while posting pictures of his penis to anyone on the internet who'll look.

So what's the batshit crazy rapper done this time? Well it would be nice to say he's deviated from telling people they are either the best or the worst in the world at something, but he hasn't. This time round, while speaking to The Sun, he's been comparing Coldplay to The Beatles:

I love Coldplay, and I honestly think they are on the same level as The Beatles. In 30 years, when Coldplay are old men, people will look back and say, 'These guys were more talented than The Beatles.'

What Kanye doesn't explain is that those people will be Coldplay themselves. Kanye doesn't stop there though, he tells Chris Martin exactly what the whiny popster means to him:

I have worked with Chris Martin and the man is a genius. As a performer and a songwriter he is on the same level as John Lennon. 'I am not saying this sort of shit lightly, it's really how talented the guy is. And Coldplay can go down as the best ever, even bigger than The Beatles.'

It's true, Kanye doesn't often make vast sweeping statements like that, so it's probably worth paying attention to this particular gem. Probably the same kind of attention you might pay to a drunk tramp picking through his own vomit for a suppository. 

It's not like Kanye doesn't know what's going on though. He knows, he just can't control it:

'I've decided to fall back a bit on interviews in order to 'sell my album'. I can't come up with some magic trick to make people like me.

 

'I've made mistakes, I've paid the price, now it is what it is. I'm gonna make this art but I'm not going to be scrutinised as a human being. No more Bush questions ... no more Taylor questions... no more relationship questions.... and the music is unquestionable.'

 

'I am a creative person, I'm not a good celebrity but I'm a great artist...I'm tired of using my celebrity to sell my art.'

I'm pretty sure there was actually a film about Kanye a while back...

Dr. Dave Bowman: Well, he acts like he has genuine emotions. Uhm, of course, he's programmed that way to make it easier for us to talk to him. But as to whether or not he has real feelings is something I don't think anyone can truthfully answer.

HAL 9000:[After killing the rest of the crew] Look, Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill and think things over. I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.
