Wave goodbye to Lindsay Lohan and say hello to... Lindsay! That's right, following in the footsteps of Cher, Rihanna, Bjork, Madonna and Lassie, the artist formally known as Lindsay Lohan is ditching her surname. It's not the only thing she's dropped in her time, we expect...

According to PopEater, mum Dina made the annoucement, saying:

"Lindsay is dropping the Lohan and just going by Lindsay. Plus, me and [17-year-old daughter] Ali will be officially changing our last names back to my maiden name, Sullivan."

This follows reports that Lindsay's dad Michael has been charged with misdemeanour domestic violence following an alleged altercation with his ex-girlfriend Kate Major. Fair enough - as long as that's why Lindsay (why not make it Lind$ay?) is changing her name and not because she wants to dupe casting directors.

By the way, Lindsay is currently the 302nd most popular name for a baby. Strangely, it's fallen quite a bit since 2003...
