NME Awards 2010: Dizzee Rascal
Shockwaves hit the music industry
Tue, 26/01/2010 - 11:55 by Mr. HMThe NME awards 2010 nominations have been announced with as many surprises as you would get opening a birthday present that had been wrapped in clingfilm.
Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian lead the nominations with six apiece, with Muse deservedly coming up the rear (etc).
There's something distinctly unNME-like about having a "Hottest Male/Female" award isn't there, until you realise that people have to vote for them on the NME website and flick through about a billion pictures of men in skinny ties. Nice to know the NME are whores for page impressions as much as we are.
And, note to NME, it doesn't matter how often you type it, no-one will ever call it the Shockwave NME awards, (see also the Orange Baftas or the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize).

JLS worstt bandd.. pftttt,, youu havinn a laughhh!!??
...What a piss poor lot to choose from.
Pete Doherty = Hottest Man...? It's the fucking end of days, I tell ya
"Sponsored by the Shannon Matthews Underbed Fund" did make me laugh. As did the idea that somehow the NME awards are percieved as rewarding cutting edge or new music, but Oasis are in half the nominations, as are Muse and Radiohead.
And Biffy Clyro, fuck things must really be in a bad way!
Jamie Cullum loves your mum.
No Jamie Cullum?
When did Best Single become Best Track?
yeah yeah yeahs. i'm not voting for them, that was just my reaction.
Dizzee Rascal is NOT one of the best solo artists in the UK. He's a cheeky chappy chancer with a way with lyrics granted but up there as the best? Ah doan think so. Mind you, maybe he is. UK mainstream music is so dull at the moment that I'm surprised they haven't roped in Shaky as a possible nominee.
