Crappy New Year

Journalist and friend Andrew Richardson has announced Pete Postlethwaite died last Sunday, aged 64, from cancer, at a hospital close to where he lived with his family in Shropshire. As one of Britain's best actors, (according to Steven Spielberg, the best in the world) and apparently a really lovely bloke this is of course terrible news.

Luckily for us, Pete left a legacy of fantastic films that we can remember him by, and so we've decided to pick our top five Postlethwaite pieces...

5) Friar Laurence in Romeo and Juliet

4) Kobayashi in Usual Suspects

3) Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill in Sharpe

2) Guiseppe Conlon in In The Name Of The Father

(they're not tears, we've just got sweaty eyes)

and of course

1) Danny in Brassed Off

Apparently John Prescott has come out with a statement today that says a lot of our previous government's decisions were based on Pete's role in Brassed Off, so there you go. Anyway, here's Pete in his finest role...
