In our opinion, the Queen never recognises the most deserved Brits in her Birthday honours list. Take this year, for example. No recognition for Antony Costa pissing against that cash machine whilst having the amazing ability to phone his mate at the same time, no recognition for Christina Hendricks and Karen Gillan single-handedly revolutionising the ginger race, and nothing for Kelly Brook for her services to lad's mags and - more importantly - HM's page views. Instead, Her Royal Highness has given her awards to an 83 year-old television host and an ex-Eastenders actress.

Yes, Bruce Forsyth has finally bowed down to Lizzie's sword and become Sir Bruce Forsyth - which means no more cries of outrage from friends of the Beeb and, err, Tess Daly over how he's been left out year after year.

We like Brucie. The fact he's still going after 70 years in the entertainment industry is bloody impressive. It's what we expect Olly Murs to be doing at the age of 90 after an inevitably successful career as a prime-time television host. Olly's predecessor, Forsyth, told BBC News:

"When I got the CBE there'd been speculation every year and I think there's been too much talk about it, so I'm thrilled at last it has happened.

I feel very proud that my career hasn't been in vain. I just love getting out there and performing and this is a reward that I never expected and hope I'm worthy of.

We were doubtful because [the speculation's] been going on so long; we thought it might be a hoax so we did check all the way down the line that it was real."

We met Bruce Forsyth once. He slapped our sister on the bum. She was 14.

Other people included on the list include Colin Firth CBE, Bernard Cribbins OBE, Bryan Ferry CBE and ex-Eastenders actress Brooke Kinsella become an MBE.

Still, back to Brucie, it's nice to see him, to see him nice, on the Queen's honours list. (we'd been holding that in for hours)

  • I want an official Royal explanation as to why Bernard Cribbins is not yet Sir Bernard, please - gawd bless 'im, he's a national treasure
