If we're totally honest here, we don't know that much about Nicki Minaj. Our only story about her to this day was primarily about the size of her arse, which, although a handy asset, doesn't really say much for her. We're assuming she's just the next in a long line of quirky female popstars to emerge from the US in recent years, which is probably why Simon Cowell is keen to snap her up for the US version of the X Factor. The majority of the population will be fans of her work, while around 3% will have a clue who Cheryl Cole is and around 1% able to understand a word she says.

Legendary record executive, LA Reid, has already been announced as one of the judges joining Cowell on the panel for the show, which didn't exactly set everybody's feathers alight. But it does leave the space now for two spare seats to be filled by two of the USA's most famous female popstars, ala Cheryl and err, Dannii, over here.

Along with Nicole Scherzinger, Katy Perry and Rihanna, Minaj has now been firmly added to the potential list of candidates. And with a slightly lower profile than the other three, could be a cheaper and more controversial underdog to take the elusive place. The New York Post kicked off this dirty rumour, with their source stating:

"Simon thinks Nicki is fantastic. She's sassy, she looks great and she has bags of personality. She fits the ideal that the programme will be exciting, vibrant and different."

Another fresh female popstar who Simon thinks is fantastic, sassy, looks great and has bags of personality is none other than pop revolutionist Rebecca Black. He loves her, in fact. And we're right behind him!

He told EW:

"Love it! I've never seen anything cause so much controversy. I think it's genius.

The fact that everyone's getting upset about it is hysterical. Any song to do with the weekend annoys you.

It reminds me of 'Saturday Night', do you remember that song by Whigfield? It's what we call a 'hair dryer song' - a song girls sing into their hair dryers as they're getting ready to go out. But the fact that's it's making people so angry is brilliant."

Go on Si, give her the job, eh? She clearly knows a lot about what it takes to be a popstar, write a catchy pop song and produce a matching video to go with it. Your acts need someone like Rebecca - someone who knows her days of the week inside out, someone who's got the balls to base the entire bridge of their song about what seat of the car to sit in - to mentor them and drive them to stardom. She managed it in about five days, after all.

  • That Rebecca Black bird is awful. I thought her song about sitting in the front seat was a sharply realised satire. But no; it is real.
