So, Illinois paint shop assistant Lee DeWyze won the ninth season of the American Idol - although since the show merged into This Is Your Life Simon Cowell no one noticed...

Simon Cowell has already left the building - and no wonder after a finale that had the production value of an episode of the Chuckle Brothers.... Alice Cooper played a pedo bear approved set, Christina Aguilera did a Lady Gaga tribute and Dane Cook made everyone feel more awkward than any of the above - though Ricky Gervais did his best to top it.

 

Somewhere in the background though, Lee DeWyza beat judges' favourite Crystal Bowersox to the crown, telling the audience:

"I have never been happier in my life."

Simon is feeling the same too after escaping the contract.

 

For all U2 fans anxious about Bono's current bad health, fear not - DeWyza will be releasing his own version of Beautiful Day later this week. 

 

For everyone else, don't worry - US X Factor is coming.
