Tyler and Lopez join the musical slaughterhouse

American Idol has announced its new judges, Steve Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. The two have been brought in to replace Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi, which is three people, but they all quit at different times. Things are different in America, see?

Bear-faced Cowell left to concentrate on the US version of the X-Factor, a show which is of course totally different, which leaves Randy Jackson as the only original panel member left.

Apparently it's their 10th year, so they wanted to do something to celebrate crushing the dreams of thousands of idiots for a decade and decided to get some slightly kinder judges in.

Tyler's already trying his best to confuse the audience:

"I want to give everybody a little love before I decide who goes home heartbroken. If you don't like what I say, don't get mad, get better,"

While Jennifer Lopez is still trying to persuade people she's an actual musician:

"I think what we'll bring is the fact that we do have the experience of trying to make it in this business and achieving a level of success and what that brings with it. Pressure, success, fame, all of those things,"

Yep, success. That's what the contestants will certainly be dealing with.
