It's not easy being Green

To sum up: England took the lead way too early, sat back and invited the US to retaliate, which they did thanks to an epic, Hall of Infamy howler by West Ham keeper Rob Green. It's the usual story of dashed hope, known to all England fans over the age of four.

With the lager glass half full, the USA are England's strongest group rivals and so a draw isn't a disaster. Algeria and Slovenia are both shite - based on yesterday's game, anyway - and even an underperforming Rooney and co. should manage a couple of wins there, before the inevitable defeat by Germany on pens in the second round.

Five things Capello needs to change for the next match:

1. Drop Rob Green, replace him with Joe Hart. Hart is England's best keeper by a mile. Everyone can see that... except old Fabio, apparently.

2. Play Joe Cole. JC looked one of our freshest players in the pre-tournament friendlies. No clue why he didn't come on vs the Yanks.

3. No more Jamie Carragher, please. Too slow, too long out of international football. Give Michael Dawson a shot.

4. Tell Frank Lampard that you don't get points for shooting over the bar. That's rugby, that is.

5. Give Wayne Rooney a boot up the arse. He was crap for most of Saturday's game.
