Adele fingers Brits producers - everyone still loves her

When M.I.A. stuck her middle finger up during Madonna’s Super Bowl performance, the good people of America were outraged. When Adele gave the international symbol for “up yours” to the producers who ordered her Brits acceptance speech be cut short, the good people of Britain proclaimed her even more lovely and brilliant than they already thought she was. In this country, we really appreciate a well-timed rude gesture.

We imagine that somewhere in Brits Towers right now, someone is shouting very angrily down a telephone about it all, and a bin had been kicked across the room.

Adele, herself, explained the gesture in a press conference immediately after the ceremony, saying:

“I was cut off during my speech but I wanted to thank the British public for all their support. I was held up with my voice and troubles but the album kept walking without me.

“I flipped the bird for the suits at the BRITS who cut me off. Sorry if I offended anyone but it was for them, not for the fans.”

While the Evening Standard reports that James Corden told them:

“The evening had gone so well so it was such a shame. It was an awful thing to do, but I had a producer in my ear saying we were pushed for time. I felt utterly mortified afterwards.”

Two official statements have so far been released about finger-gate (as no one is calling it). And we wouldn’t be surprised if Nick Clegg doesn’t have to go on This Morning to make a formal apology to the queen of all our hearts and the best person there’s ever been at singing, Adele Laurie Blue Adkins.

An ITV spokesman said:

"The BRITs is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption."

Tell it to the hand…

A BRITs spokesman said: "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."

That’s more like it.

We can’t help wishing that the lovely James Corden had joined in the punk spirit and refused to interrupt her, with George Michael gamely wrestling security as they attempted to storm the stage. But that didn’t happen.

Still, well done Adele. You are fucking brilliant at everything.
