We sure all that hard work trying to curb press intrusion in privacy was absolutely for the greater good of celebrity and nothing at all to do with his own nine month secret about a girl (etc etc), Hugh Grant is a dad. Aw, congrats Hugh! Apparently the baby was born at the beginning of October, which means it was conceived at the beginning the year, which means he quite probably had the news confirmed some time in March, which is exactly when he was admitted to hospital complaining of 'dizziness'. Another coincidence, obviously.

According to the Telegraph, Chinese actress Tinglan Hong gave birth in London five weeks ago following a brief fling with the 51-year-old. While he apparently wasn't present for the birth, it's added that he spent 30 minutes with his daughter - rumoured to be called Sophie - the next day before heading to Scotland to play golf.

Talking to E! News, his rep confirmed:

"I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl.

"He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms."

Congrats, Hugh. You grant-ed her wish! What a grant.
