Following on from the news that Kim Kardashian Gordon and Thurston Moore are divorcing after several decades of marriage, indie's hope of true love has taken another blow after Zooey Deschanel and Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard split up. We'll be listening to Elliott Smith whilst weeping beneath our fringe.

If life really does imitate art, by the end of the week Kris Humphries will be urinating on Kim Kardashian in public (that vid is her only art), but following on from Zooey Deschanel's prime time US TV role playing a newly-single quirky-type in New Girl, she is now a newly-single quirky-type because she's getting a divorce :(

The couple, who got married in indie Seattle two years ago, haven't officially announced the split, although a source has told Us Magazine:

"It was mutual and amicable. There was no third party involved."

Not wanting to speculate about why they might have split, we've just looked at Gibbard's Wikipedia page and discovered that in the same year he met Deschanel, he gave up booze and started running marathons. What larks.

Ho-hum, maybe he can do another Postal Service album now??
