Temperley, Vivien Westwood Red Label, Mulberry and PPQ's Spring/Summer 2012 show
London pride
Wed, 15/02/2012 - 10:28 by BeccaDPAnd so, as the slightly ill-thought-out Egypt-inspired Unique collection hits Topshop, we have to come to terms with the fact that we’re going to be seeing the world and its dog wearing it in the park as soon as the sun starts to shine. Still, for the meantime at least we’ll have the new collections to distract us, eh?
Of all the Fashion Weeks, London has always seemed the quirkiest and the most accessible, mixing high fashion with wearability in a way you just don’t get at Paris Fashion Week. We’re really quite obscenely excited about these shows:
PPQ
One of the main things we love about PPQ is their commitment to colour and texture, and if last A/W’s bold prints and dark purples are anything to go by, their A/W ’12 looks will be the most wearable out there.
House of Holland
As much as Henry Holland sort of annoys us a bit every now and then because of his lack of fashion certificates, his designs are fun and there’s no way round that. There’s something about the way he overuses and abuses print that makes his collections cheery, and his tailoring is almost universally flattering.
Temperley London
No discussion of British fashion is really complete without Temperley. The ultimate designer for classy femininity, Temperley wows us every time. We might bang on about a nice wearable frock or a good investment coat, but we won’t really be happy until a silky Temperley frock hangs in our wardrobe.
Mulberry
After capturing the essence of Summer in an almost too-good collection of brights and neutrals, we’re expecting a knock-out A/W collection from Mulberry. And, of course, a rollicking good catwalk show.
Acne
The pre-A/W collection is a riot of understated glam, tarnished metallics and statement coats that have a hint of defiance. This label is like the cool girl that shows up to your party but doesn’t talk to anyone. What’s not to love?
Erdem
As well as being decidedly on the cute side, Erdem is a man who understands a woman’s body. That alone is reason enough to adore his designs, and his eclectic prints are just the icing on the cake. A true leader.
McQ Alexander McQueen
Of course we’re looking forward to this show! The whole world is watching to see how Sarah Burton preserves and develops the legacy of the label, and the pre-A/W ’12 lookbook suggests we’ll all be very, very, very satisfied with her work.
Vivienne Westwood Red Label
Another no-brainer, we’re expecting the usual drapery, tailoring and ballsiness that we love from Viv. Added to that, the show itself is likely to be just fabulous.
We’re not looking forward to…Issa
It was boring before K-Middy and now it has reached near-coma-inducing proportions of dull. The only way it can save itself is by embroidering swearwords and pornographic illustrations all over its shift dresses.
