The most exciting boring person in all the land, Kate Middleton has the mixed honour of being our future queen and helping Issa sell boring frocks. You see, every time Kate wears clothes (most of the time, we imagine, unless her at-home nudity is why they didn’t want a butler…) thousands of gullible women flock to the shops to buy the exact same dress/American tan tights/gilet that Kate has favoured. But is she a trendsetter? American fashion snobs say nay…

Gregg Andrews, a bigwig at posh shop Nordstroms, has commented on our wishy-washy Duchess’ threads:

“She is stylish, but she’s not setting trends, she’s following trends. If you take Kate out of the Royal Family, put her on a street in New York, you wouldn’t look at her twice. She’s a beautiful woman, but she blends into a crowd.”

OooooOOOOH! Handbags, much? He’s right, though, Kate does blend into a crowd, with only her glossy Sloane mane to mark her out from the ranks of ladies wearing mum-dresses.

Elle’s Anne Slowey also weighed in with her opinion-words:

“Is she a style icon of the likes of a Kate Moss? Absolutely not. Is she in the public eye? Are people going to become obsessed with everything she wears regardless of what it is? Yes.”

What we can take away from this, apart from the fact that Fashion People like to ask themselves a lot of rhetorical questions (which they then answer, thus negating the rhetoric) is that though Kate may be an English rose and a good contender for Princess of Our Hearts or something, she is not respected by the world of fashion. Apart from Issa, but seriously, zzzzzzzzz much?
