Try as we might, and love their main line as we do, we just don’t feel much love for the Topshop Unique label. Their S/S ’12 line (now available, if you really must…) was a hot mess of metallic hotpants and literal Cleopatra references, and this season might as well be called Acne-lite.

The over-sized, under-tailored pieces in this collection just don’t have the panache or confidence that gives Acne its inherent cool, and the overall effect is a bit "will this do?" really. Trying to be as positive as we can, we like the gold dress and the big printed coat: they’re good-looking pieces that we would genuinely love to own. The styling on the models is great, too, excellent under-done hair and smoky eyes.

But dungarees, Topshop? Stiff wrap skirts that look like they’re failing to close because they’re too small, Topshop? No thanks.
