Some labels are just 100 per cent grown up, aren’t they? Jason Wu just happens to be one of those labels, showcasing a A/W ’12 collection of form-fitting cocktail dresses and luxurious coats in a striking palette of red, black and gold.

Baroque detailing is very much the watchword in this collection, featuring on most of the pieces. It works to startling effect, especially when gracing the bodice of a velvet-skirted dress, or forming a sort of chest plate on a military-inspired jacket. Against the baroque detail, though, a polka dot detailed cocktail dress and a handful of cheerful florals look lost and like an afterthought.

We love the elegance of this collection, so we’re not sure on the chunky fur trim on a few of the items; they distract the eye away from the silhouette that most of the looks slavishly worship.
