When she’s not passing judgement on red carpet dresses for Miss Piggy on Project Runway, Georgina Chapman designs frothy, feminine, red carpet gowns for Marchesa. Her A/W ’12 collection is very much representative of what we’ve seen from Chapman before, but that doesn’t make it any less lovely.

Working heavily in tulle and lame, this collection fuses dramatic shapes with dangerously sheer fabrics and strategically placed embroidery. We love, above all, the pieces that use the dark, liquid-gold silk: a voluminous skirted gown and an effortlessly draped Grecian number. The gold material gives these pieces a surreal feel that fits in with the often literary aesthetic of Marchesa. We also adore the pearly white gown constructed from feathers and laser-cut silk, a modest but revealing dress that speaks of innocence and sex.

This idea goes too far, though, in the full-length gown that reveals an almost entirely naked model. While we get what this look was going for, it looks like the model’s gone for a shower, forgotten her towel and had to wrap up in a fancy shower curtain. We also don’t think Georgina would tolerate such a look on Project Runway.
