Some labels, you know what you’re getting before you get it, and Vera Wang is one of them Wang knows a woman’s body and dresses it in swathes of chiffon, playing up femininity whilst wholly avoiding the girly girly pitfalls of chiffon. Her A/W ’12 collection sees this approach updated with heavy wool and silk trims, slinky metallics and grungy prints.

We love the colour story for this collection: a swirling grey to a deep teal, a rusty orange to a classic nude. The chiffon conceals and reveals in equal measure, giving hints of flesh and showcasing beautiful beaded motifs and detailing. We can’t get enough of the heavily beaded separates: the barrel-shaped skirt and the vest tunic, and the swirly, oil-on-water printed chiffon numbers are all delicious. We especially love the over-long sleeves: they add a touch of awkwardness and grunge to an otherwise polished collection.

Ms Wang herself also looks amazing, we must add, in the simplest, most chic outfit of any designer we’ve seen this season so far.
