"You should come out and see, it really is a lovely view"
Trailers. What more do you need to know?
Fri, 08/07/2011 - 16:50 by Peter MeehanIt's the end of the week, so unless you work weekends, you will undoubtedly be looking forward to two days of soap omnibuses (Emmerdale and Coronation Street on Saturday, Hollyoaks and EastEnders on Sunday - booya) and booze induced renal failure. But while you're enjoying your TV, don't forget about the cinema; it's like a massive telly in a big room with sticky floors, that loads of people all sit in and watch.
If you're a regular movie goer, here's a collection of the best bits of upcoming films that they edited together into a couple of minutes to entice you to pay to see the rest of it.
Kicking off with Magic Trip, in 1964, Ken Kesey, author of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, went on a cross-country road trip with loads of LSD and some of his friends in an old schoolbus. The footage has recently been 'unearthed' and they've got some of those involved to recount the story. It's a nostalgic look back to the 60's, when smoking drugs was OK and times were more pleasant and carefree. If you weren't around then, you can marvel at how pleasant and carefree everything seemed.
Next is Fright Night, a film about Vampires. How novel, how refreshing - no-one's done vampires for a while. Colin Farrell stars as a vampire, but one that kills people, teenagers in fact, which is a nice break from teenager vampires looking into the middle distance with angst etched across their faces. It is up to Charley Brewster to stop him killing, and possibly banging his mum. It looks like it's got a bit of action in it, which is lovely. Oh, and it's got David Tennant in too...wonderful.
Bernie Madoff was a bit of a shit, wasn't he? He nicked $50 billion from investors and got away with it for years. Chasing Madoff recounts the story of the five-man investigation team that spent ten years trying to get to the bottom of it all. They kept hitting walls of silence and cover-ups that was endemic through the corrupt Wall Street. If you are interested in the whole white-collar fraud corruption thing, then you'll probably enjoy this film, otherwise it might seem not a bit long-winded and unnecessarily sensationalised.
And Lastly, The Ledge is billed as a sexy and suspenseful thriller, but don't let that put you off; they've chucked a religious nut into the mix. A man starts a relationship with his evangelical neighbour's wife. Understandably not best pleased about this, the husband lures them to a building and gives his wife's lover the ultimatum of jumping off the roof or her dying. It's got all of that 'clock is ticking' nonsense they include in films to make it suspenseful.
