A not very happy Mark Wahlberg, possibly thinking about Planet of the Apes

Fri, 30/12/2011 - 12:08 by John HillNo-one really liked Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. It wasn't a terrible film, just seriously dull, which no film about a planet on which monkeys have overthrown their human masters should ever be. Come on, a planet ruled by chimps? Everything should be made of bananas or shaped like a banana and they should all wear fez hats and chain smoke Sobranies.
Also, Clyde should be President of The United Apes, where he makes more and more outrageous laws prohibiting the use of oranges, and finishes all his speeches by flinging semen at Congress. Banana Congress.
Mark Wahlberg didn't think it was a very good film either. In fact, the newest iteration of the franchise, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes In The Loosest Sense Of The Word, has really put his effort in stark relief. As soon as he saw James Franco cuddling a CGI baby chimp with Dick Solomon he instantly new exactly how badly Tim Burton and he had failed to capture the spirit of Monkey Tennis. (Via MTV News)
"I haven't seen [Rise of the Planet of the Apes] yet, but I heard it was pretty damn good. Well, ours wasn't. It is what it is. Ours wasn't,"
"They didn't have the script right. They had a release date before he had shot a foot of film. They were pushing him and pushing him in the wrong direction. You have got to let [director] Tim [Burton] do his thing."
"I have no better time on any movie than I had working with Tim. I had the most amazing time with Tim. I run to be on the set with him. We were doing reshoots, and he came out with me to Paris,"
"We're in the club. Tim was in the club, man. Tim was in the club. Then he'd be drawing people, and all of his caricatures looked the same. He'd be drawing people in the club."
Ok, so he hadn't actually seen the film, but he imagined it was better, which is what actors do. They imagine. They imagine that's it's a good idea to say they thought films they worked on were terrible. Good to know that he had such a wonderful time with Timmy B-to-the-Urton though. THEY WERE IN THE CLUB. TIM WAS IN THE CLUB. DRAWING BITCHES IN THE CLUB. ALL UP IN THERE DRAWING CARICATURES IN THE CLUB.
