Urgently need to some waste time? Try these apps
Fri, 18/11/2011 - 15:56 by Peter Meehan

In today's app round-up, you can be a radio DJ, run an empire, be Superman, fight dinosaurs and run around pretending to be a spy. Also, Minecraft has landed on iPhone and iPad, so that's very exciting for iPhone-owning Minecraft fans, as well as an app companion for Alan Partridge's autobiography, what a majestic collection of apps.

Pogoplug Cloud - iPhone / Android / iPad
Clouds are brilliant aren't they? All up in the sky; cirrus, cumulonimbus and all of that. But the best cloud of them all is the one that stores files and music and things. Pogoplug offers 5GB of free storage. Bet a stratus cloud couldn't do that.

BuddyCast - iPhone
BuddyCast turns your phone into a music-streaming and radio broadcasting tool. Not only can you stream songs, but you can DJ and talk over the top like a proper radio DJ. The licensing agreements on this are a bit dubious, so it might not be around for too long.

Empire Online - Anroid
The Massively multiplayer online roleplaying game has been a huge hit on iOS and now is available to Android users. Empire Online has over 300 maps, 1,000 quests and there are currently over five million people currently playing.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition- iPhone / iPad
The phenomenally successful Minecraft is now available for iOS. Although a partially stripped down version, which includes building and digging rather than the survival mode, it is still the Minecraft that gamers know and love (as opposed to all of those rubbish copies that have been knocking around recently).

Superman - Phone/iPad
From the publishers of Angry Birds, the official Superman game has hit iOS. With 18 levels of action, Superman must fly around the city to fight Lex Luthor and save the world.

I, Partridge: We Need to Talk About Alan - iPhone
This app serves as a compliment to the hit Alan Partridge autobiography, containing Alan's virtual study, notes and audiobook extracts as well as sample of songs from the soundtrack. if you loved the book, you'll love this.

Jurassic Park: The Game 1 HD - iPhone
With all previous Jurassic Park games falling short on every medium so far, it's the iPad's turn to try. Beginning in the last half of the first film (the part with the best bits), you play as Dennis Nedry's contact in the park and as the park veterinarian fighting Dinosaurs and trying to survive. It could be the best Jurassic Park game ever (which wouldn't be all that hard).

Extraction: Project Outbreak - iPhone/iPad
When Government experiments on military personnel and POW's go wrong, an outbreak of infected soldiers are unleashed. This top-down 3D shooter, inspired by retro classics has been specifically designed for a touch screen, and it looks bloody good.

CodeRunner - iPhone
Another one of those location-based games, Coderunner is a real-world espionage adventure that takes you to locations for you to hack, spy and sabotage in real places. It could be a new take on gaming, one that involves running around, which is good for your heart or something.
