Battlefield 3
Hit the Battlefield
Mon, 24/10/2011 - 20:18 by Peter MeehanTop of the list of the most anticipated game releases of this week is Battlefield 3, which is also a contender for most anticipated games of the year. The first-person shooter is fighting a battle against Call of Duty's Modern Warfare 3 as the best shoot 'em up of the year. So until that comes out next month, fill your boots with this dramatic shooty action. Another first-person shooter out this week is GoldenEye: Reloaded, the PS3 and XBox 360 high-def remake of the Wii's GoldenEye 007 remake from the classic N64…got that? There's also a Lord of the Rings game, a video game from the TV series NCIS and the new Silent Hill.
Take On Helicopters (PC) (27TH October)
Who says flight simulators are boring? Oh everyone. Well, prepare to have that opinion possibly altered, possibly. Take On Helicopters features vast and detailed environments and real life flight dynamics. Everything you'd want in a flight simulator.
Battlefield 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
Slugging it out with Modern Warfare 3 as the most anticipated game of the year, the eleventh Battlefield game sees your five-man team on a mission to find and return a US squad investigating a possible chemical weapons site. They do this, mostly by shooting anyone and anything they see. The game has won over 60 awards, so it could be a bit good.
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North (PS3, PC)
Even though the The Lord of the Rings films are eight years old, the cash cow shows no signs of giving up yet. Action-RPG War in the North features three playable characters in their quest following a story that wasn't in the film, but was told within J.R.R. Tolkien's books and appendices. The XBox 360 version is due to be released at the beginning of November.
NCIS (PS3, PC, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS)
The TV show that's on after CSI, or before CSI or in a similar time slot to CSI now has its own video game. Hopefully this will buck the trend of recent poor TV-to-video-game attempts. Taking on each character from the TV series to solve complex murder, espionage and terrorist cases, it is a must for all NCIS fans out there.
Disney Universe (Wii, Xbox 360)
In this action-adventure you control characters who put on suits from iconic Disney and Pixar films. Supposedly it's a lot like the Lego game series or Little Big Planet, you can be assured it'll aimed at younger children, fun yet challenging.
Silent Hill: Downpour (Xbox 360, PS3)
The fear-inducing survival horror series releases its eighth installment. Following the story of Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner who is stranded in Silent Hill after his prison van careers off a road. Although the plot is entirely unrelated to events in the previous games in the series, it will no doubt retain that scary, edge-of-the-seat style that it's renowned for.
Kinect Sports Season 2 (Xbox 360)
The game that was the same as Wii sports, except you didn't have to worry about throwing the Wii controller through the TV is back! The game features six sports to add to the original Kinect Sports: golf, darts, baseball, skiing, tennis, and American football, which you play through gestures and speech recognition, it'll make you feel like you're doing something healthy, when you're actually just jumping around your living room.
GoldenEye Reloaded (PS3, Xbox 360)
One of the greatest games of all time, GoldenEye 007 for N64 was remade for the Wii last year, it was like trying to reinvent the wheel, it was never going to match the greatness of the original, but it made a brave attempt. Now, that remake is has been given a high-definition remake and is set to be released on XBox 360 and PS3, if you loved the original N64 version, don't expect it to be as amazing, but expect to enjoy it.
Sword of the Stars II: Lords of Winter (PC)
The sequel to 2006's Sword of Stars, the turn-based strategy PC game revolves around the 4X style of play: explore, expand, exploit and exterminate. Featuring the six civilisations from the original game as well as a new one, as you try to take your race to conquer the stars and rival civilisations.

Erm, so it would seem.
Obviously our sources (our mate Dave) was incorrect. Sorry for any premature excitement.
Wasn't Silent Hill delayed until 2012?
