Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
What is there to be said about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 that hasn't already been said? The first-person shooter was called 'the most anticipated game of the year', but is it that good? Is it really worth the money to play another take on a genre that must be starting to lag a little now? Well, yes. Yes it is.
From 'the biggest selling franchise in PS3', Modern Warfare 3 takes everything to the next level. The single-player campaign immediately thrusts you straight into the action, with a frenzied shootout taking place as soon you start your first mission. The story in MW3 takes you all around the world, through India, New York, London and Somalia, shooting the shit out of anyone and everyone. The plot starts off with a Soviet assault on a bunch of major cities around the world. The Russians played Bond villains for nearly 30 years and they probably thought we'd all be friends after the end of the Cold War. Nope. Not a chance.
It's the game's depth that makes it engaging, the landscapes that you shoot your way through are vast and detailed and the missions keep you continually occupied. Whilst it may be the single-player campaign that pulls you in, what keeps you picking the controller up time after time is the online multiplayer. A new Survival mode (replacing the Zombies mode on previous games), where two online players take on waves of enemies which grow in difficulty is now present, while returning from Modern Warfare 2 is Special Ops, where two players take on an array of challenges gaining star ratings for each one.
Modern Warfare 3's frenetic online death matches have been revamped, changing 'killstreaks' to 'pointstreaks', a process that means you don't just earn points for killing other players, but also for things like planting bombs and capturing strategic points, which should give those without an eagle eye and lightning fast trigger finger a chance to still be a vital team member. Other tweaks to the gameplay also include a 'kill confirmed' game, where you collect dogtags of fallen enemies.
Making $400 million in the first 24 hours of release, it's undoubted that Modern Warfare 3 is the game to beat when it comes to being the best game around, and these crazy sales figures aren't a fallacy, they reflect the quality, depth and intensity that runs through the whole of Modern Warfare 3.
