The Darkness IIThe Darkness II

Some strange goings on in the gaming world
Mon, 06/02/2012 - 18:07 by Peter Meehan

A modest collection of games out this week. The first-person shooter The Darkness II, the supernatural mafia shoot 'em up, as well as Catherine, which looks not dissimilar to playing your own anime film, with just as much unexplained goings on.

Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)
An open-world RPG set in the fantasy world of Amalur, created by R. A. Salvatore. Action combat, exploration, character customisation and magic spells makes it sound like another game trying to tap into the Skyrim market.

The Darkness II (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)
First-person demon shoot 'em up, based on the horror comic book story. Mob boss Jack Estacado gets himself involved in a full-scale mob war and his supernatural power, The Darkness, re-emerges inside him. Stylistic comic-book graphic violence make this a feel like you're playing a graphic novel.

Grand Slam Tennis 2 (Xbox 360/PS3)
After the Australian Open got everyone a bit interested in tennis for a while, Grand Slam Tennis 2 has arrived. With Total Racket Control to for better technique on every shot, and a collection of legends including Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe and the Williams Sisters.

Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Olympic Games (3DS)
Having previously appeared on Wii, this fun athletics games has all the major Olympic track and field events, with characters from the Mario and Sonic universe.

Catherine (Xbox 360/PS3)
This Japanese adult game features the main character Vincent who cheats on his girlfriend Katherine, for a beautiful girl called Catherine. It's not clear what's going on and what you're supposed to do, but it's an adult Japanese game, so you can be fairly sure there's going to be some crazyness. Here, watch the trailer, and try and figure out for yourself.

Also out this week:
Jagged Alliance: Back in Action and King Arthur II: The Role-Playing Wargame on PC, Pac-Man Party 3D and One Piece Unlimited Cruise SP on 3DS and Victorious: Time To Shine on Kinect.
