The rumours are true. The greatest living woman (who isn’t Shakira) Joanna Newsom is to sing on the soundtrack for the upcoming new The Muppets movie. Feist, Mickey Rooney and some people we’ve not heard of will also be contributing.

Joanna, the harpist, lyrical genius and goddess of nature will add her yawl to a new version of The Muppet Show Theme. We don’t know which bit yet, but we’re hoping for it’s time to dress up right. While Feist and the miraculously still-alive Mickey Rooney appear on new track Life’s A Happy Song, written by Flight of the Conchords fella Bret McKenzie.

The new Muppet film, which stars Amy Adams, Jason Segel and Chris Cooper isn’t released until February in the UK, but the soundtrack will be in shops from November 21. Those might just be American shops, but that’s what the Internet’s for.

Here’s the full tracklisting for The Muppets soundtrack:

*Still not getting on with the new album

  • (sighs) I love Joanna Newsome and I love The Muppets. There might be a stinky old eurozone crisis going on in the land of the grown-ups, but as long as there's Kermit all's right with the world. I'm going to play Easy now and drift away on a sunbeam.
