Over in the United States of America, people are sniggering behind their hands about Lana Del Rey’s debut performance on Saturday Night Live. And they’re also guffawing into their hankies about the leaked email from NBC anchorman Brian Williams to Gawker founder Nick Denton in which he describes the Beanie Baby-lipped popstrel as being “the least-experienced musical guest in the show's history” and her rendition of Blue Jeans as “one of the worst outings in SNL history”. In fairness, Lana did ok. The song has some crazy register changes that sound sublime on record but perhaps aren’t best attempted with a tummy full of pouty butterflies, live on your biggest TV appearance to date.
