Britney Spears is being targeted by a sinister and unforgiving Church which would like to see nothing more than the pop princess' career in tatters. No, it's not the oddballs from Scientology (she's really not rich enough to attract their attention yet). It's the prize idiots at the Westboro Baptist Church (whose continued existence appears to defy the Darwinian model) who intend to picket her concert on Thursday in Kansas City.

The Church became famous for demonstrating outside other churches at the services of dead US servicemen, while last Christmas (I gave you my heart) they applied for permission to display a huge sign in Washington DC with the words "Santa will take you to hell" written on it, a remarkably poor attempt at getting into the festive spirit.

 

The God-fearing cockroaches also demonstrated outside memorial services for Heath Ledger because of his homosexuality. OK, he wasn't gay but he PLAYED a gay man in 'Brokeback Mountain', justifying their action with the statement,

 

"He got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it's OK to be gay."

 

That wasn't quite the message that came across to me, but there you go. Now Britney is their latest target. It's not really clear why. They don't make any mention of her miming or her fashion sense in their latest statement, which includes their well thought-out and reasoned views as usual.

 

"Britney will REALLY try to get custody of her hell-spawn back when she gets hungry enough! … God Hates Britney Spears! Just you wait — YOU WILL EAT YOUR BABIES!"

 

Good luck ignoring the handful of idiots on Thursday, Britney. They'll be the ones outside the venue not quite realising that you can't hear them over the sound system. And even if you do eat your babies, at least they won't be joining this particular 'Church'.
