Chris Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting former girlfriend Rihanna and will be sentenced to 180 days of community service following the fight which left the singer battered after having her head slammed against a car window.

The change of plea was designed to help Brown avoid jail. It worked. He will be placed on probation for five years and must perform 180 days of "labour-oriented" community work in his home state of Virginia.

The attack happened on February 8, as the couple drove home from Clive Davis's Grammy Awards party. The incident left Rihanna with cuts and bruises on her face, forcing her to cancel a performance at the Grammys later that day.

Brown later said he was "sorry and saddened" by the events and that he was seeking the counselling of his pastor, family and friends - which is in stark contrast to the puffed up gangsta bullshit he posted on youtube a week or so ago, claiming he "ain't no monsta". hhmmm...

No, he just slammed Rihanna's head against their car window before repeatedly punching and biting her.
