Little Miley Cyrus has already apologised for that picture of her and her idiotic friends sitting with a bemused Asian man while they pull their eyelids into a slanted shape. Well, she sort of apologised, claiming that if anyone was offended by this blatant racism then she was sorry, and so were her idiotic friends.

In the land of the free you are free to launch totally ridiculous lawsuits, hence the action now being taken against Cyrus for the picture by Lucie J. Kim, herself a California Asian (not to be confused with those little wrinkly pieces of fruit who sang soul songs on adverts).

Kim doesn't want to speak on behalf of everyone of Asian extraction in the LA area, but has decided that she will, launching a lawsuit for the minimum amount of damages for a civil rights violation, which is $4,000. The minimum amount? How generous of her! Except that she includes on her claim each and every Asian citizen of LA County, whether they've asked to be included or not.

As there are (give or take) 1 million Asians living in the county, this means that Miley is facing a potential bill of $4 billion. The lawsuit claims that Miley should have known better as she's always in the media, so she should have known that the photo would come to light, which is a little like saying that ill-educated and cosseted footballers should be role models for inner-city children. To quote the action itself, sixteen year-old Miley Cyrus,

"Should have known that her image would be publicly disseminated via the media, which Cyrus knew focused on her private life."

Or you could just sue her for being an insufferable little idiot, though that wasn't a crime the last time I looked at the statute books (which was three minutes ago, thanks for asking).

Kim really hasn't thought this through, has she? If she wins the case, she's the one who's going to have to sit there with a copy of the phone book and writing out cheques for $4000. Her wrist will be knackered after she writes 'payable to A. Ang' for the fiftieth time.
