Prince alarming

Despite being a parasitic blight on our economy and a general worldwide embarrassment, the Royal Family do have their thoughtful moments. Prince Phillip, for example, makes a point of never insulting the same ethnic minority twice in one day. Prince Harry has kept several manufacturers of comedy Nazi outfits in business. And Princess Diana... well, she was a friend to everyone, wasn't she? Apart from the Parisian Roadside Maintenance Department, obviously.

We're happy to report, then, that second-in-line-to-the-throne Prince William has displayed a rare moment of right royal common sense. How? By refusing to join wonky-eyed talent vacuum Paris Hilton at her Las Vegas club launch party.

Paris has apparently got her eye on William (well, whenever it's not rolling off to one side like a faulty gyroscope, anyway) and began texting him after the pair met at exclusive London venue Whiskey Mist. A close source has babbled:

"Some of William's mates saw it and have been taking the mick ever since. The royal set find the whole thing totally hilarious and have been encouraging him to go to Vegas for the opening of Paris's latest venture. Although flattered by her attentions, William doesn't think he can justify the jaunt - and has politely turned her down."

In hindsight, though, maybe William is being a little hasty. We're sure the pair could have a lot to chat about: stories about being a grotesquely overprivileged child, stories about being a grotesquely overprivileged teenager, stories about being a grotesquely overprivileged adult...  why, the anecdotes could go on and on.

Unless Paris asks William "So, what does your father do for a living?" of course. We're not sure anyone has quite figured that out yet.
