Someone pass us a hankie quick, for love's young dream has been cut to an abrupt end. In a split as sad and as shocking as that of Michelle Heaton and Andy Scott Lee, Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt have decided to call time on their relationship...

Just days ago, Paris Hilton was telling the world that her boyfriend was 'hotter than Brad Pitt'. How things can change in such a short space of time.

And 23-year-old Doug, a former professional baseball player and star of reality show The Hills, had returned the compliment and said of Paris:

 

"Paris is so special to me. She is the one, I knew it the moment I met her. I am going to ask her to marry me but I can’t say when. I don’t want to ruin the surprise."

 

The pair took their staged spectacle genuine love to Cannes recently (see pic above), where they were unable to keep their hands (or tongues) off one another.

Paris's spokesperson has since confirmed the split, asking the media for privacy adding:

"In response to the inquiry on whether Paris Hilton has split up with Doug Reinhardt, yes, this is true they are no longer together. They remain friends and ask that you please respect their privacy."

(We'll respect hers once she's stopped infringing upon ours.)

Meanwhile, Paris puts on a brave face and remains dignified as she films another series of her reality TV show, Paris Hilton's New Best Friend Forever...
