Hey-Ho No-No

Tomorrow's U.S Presidential Election is important for a number of reasons - it could represent the first time a black man has ever become the American President, it could genuinely determine the fate of the entire planet, and it could be the first time a 72-year-old candidate has been endorsed by a slightly overrated old punk band who only really had about three good songs.

Well … kind of. Linda Cummings - widow of late Ramones frontman Joey Ramone - has been using her close proximity to the band to help endorse the McCain-Palin nightmare double act. Frankly, though, we're going to hazard a guess that Sarah Palin has never heard of the Ramones, as a) they don't come from Alaska, and b) tend not to use disabled babies as political leverage.

Not everyone is happy with this, however. Mickey Leigh - brother of Joey - has issued a statement claiming that the Ramone name has been besmirched. Have a gander:

"As a President of Ramones Productions, and brother of Joey Ramone, I just want it to be clear that Linda Cummings does not represent the political views of the Ramones. Surely, as for Joey Ramone, the only Ramones song he would sing at a Republican campaign event would be 'Glad To See You Go'.

"I should add that when Johnny stated 'God Bless George Bush' at the 2002 Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame awards, I realise now that he was on to something. Because if it were not for George Bush and his handling of our country the past eight years, I doubt so many Americans, including so many highly regarded Republicans, would now be getting behind Barack Obama. So, yes, God bless George Bush for paving the way to Obama."

Kind of overlooking his brother's support for the Texan simpleton there, but never mind - the message is clear. If any American readers wanted to vote along the same lines as a recently-deceased punk musician, Barack Obama is your man. Same applies to any American readers who just wanted to make sure that the world isn't utterly, utterly fucked come Wednesday morning.
