Gervais spinning off

You have to give Ricky Gervais some credit; he's certainly no quitter. OK, so he hasn't really made anything funny since the Christmas special of 'The Office' and his latest movie offering, 'Ghost Town', was the most sick-inducing affair since Jodie Marsh decided to parade her lesbian lover across the front pages. But the middle-aged sack of potatoes in a black t-shirt just keeps plugging away with new films and TV shows.

While it boasts possibly the least funny set up ever (something about the adventures of people working in a 1970s building society - start preparing for Gervais' 'hilariously' dated suits now), Steven Merchant is involved, so there's a chance it won't be as mind-numbingly laughter-free as it sounds.

If proof was needed that Gervais' level of un-self-awareness is now approaching that of David Brent, he also revealed that he's got big plans for after the movie.

"We're thinking of doing a TV spinoff," Gervais told rottentomatoes.com. "I think it's a much better way around that doing a TV show and trying to turn it into a film. This way around gives it a bit more gravitas, I think."
