Yesterday Tom Cruise returned to the US show 'Today', the scene of his spat with host Matt Lauer several years ago when Tom lost his cool when talking about psychiatry and declared that he knew more on the subject than anyone in the world. When Lauer picked him up on this Tom's rage was phenomenal, something for which he apologised yesterday.

Tom was due to be interviewed at 9am, so the news anchors (including Lauer) were surprised when the creepily-smiling star appeared next to them at 7.01am, uneasily standing at the side of their desk and grinning like a madman, thoroughly creeping the studio out in the process. Maybe he meant it as a joke, maybe he meant to intimidate Lauer but one thing's for sure - those cold, dead alien eyes are incapable of expressing humour or love.

 

Best moment comes when the female anchor Meredith Viera mentions the big story of the day - someone throwing shoes at the President of the United States. Innocently she asks, "Did you hear about Bush, Tom?" The brief pause as all present freeze as they realise Viera has asked the question that everyone has avoided for years is quite, quite beautiful.
