Truck off

Rubbish rap chap 50 Cent has been on a 'branding mission' for years. His music (for want of a better term) is merely the sideshow to his relentless pursuit to have his name and image plastered over every product on the market. But, in being too brand-promiscuous, he has finally overreached himself.

Last year General Motors announced plans to launch the 50 Cent-sponsored Pontiac G8 sport truck. But, given the 'current economic climate', the vehicle has been abandoned on the hard shoulder of product development for the foreseeable future.

'Fiddy' (as only idiots call the mumbling MC) made $150m last year and topped the inaugural Forbes Hip-Hop Cash Kings list (way ahead of Jay-Z who only made $82 million). Books, games, films, clothing, deodorant, condoms and mineral water - there was nothing that Mr Cent wouldn't put his name to.

While 'conspicuous consumption' was his calling card in the past, harsh economic factors mean that people are less willing to have their noses rubbed in his ridiculous wealth. Good.

His new album (ominously entitled 'Before I Self-Destruct') is out next month. Let's hope someone hotwires it and drives it into the sea.
