Face the final Corden

Their diabolical turn hosting the Brits last month has clearly given them the taste for the 'rock lifestyle', now James Corden and Mathew Horne are putting together a band. Oh.

The comedy duo, less Laurel & Hardy and more Little & Large, are stretching their gossamer-thin 'brand' to breaking point by building a TV show around their musical plans. No doubt much hilarity will ensue as they prepare to play the Isle Of Wight festival this summer and are followed by ITV2 (yes, the massively successful broadcasting benchmark that is ITV2) for a show called 'We Are Rock Stars'.

This is all clearly the end result of a listless marketing meeting about 'demographic targeting' and 'expanding skill sets' and even the title suggests the lack of care and thought that has gone into this 'package'. And because it's on ITV2, where on Earth will they put all the inevitable 'extra content' that this slurry-spreading vehicle will undoubtedly pump out? Hopefully the ITV3 and ITV4 schedules are being cleared as we type to make way for it.

The window of opportunity for the furthering of their career is rapidly closing after last week's arrival on BBC Three of their new 'sketch' 'show' (synopsis: one is fat, the other is thin and weight-related mirth follows). Can we really blame them for making money while they can? Probably not. But does this have to be so, well, clumsy and clichéd?

Vic Reeves, Skinner & Baddiel, The Mighty Boosh, even her and him from Gavin & Stacy - they've all had a go at pop careers. And they have all been shit. Comedy and music has only worked once. And Spinal Tap was a quarter of a century ago.
