This Christmas, Gorillaz fans got sent a new Gorillaz album. Not being in their fan club, we didn’t get one. But now we’ve got one, because The Fall is being released for everyone to own. Rejoice.

Damon Albarn (he’s not really a cartoon monkey) made the whole thing on his iPad. And if you’re thinking that means it’s going to sound like someone messing around with various bleepy bloopy sequencing apps then, well it sort of does.

Created whilst on tour, we can just imagine the rest of the band’s irritation simmering. “Damon, mate…” “blip, bloop, tish”. “Damon?” “zibit, blap, blibbidy”. "Damon!!!” “wooop, bumph, blubub”. It must’ve been like sharing a tour bus with Mario and Sonic’s hyperactive children (yes, they got married).

As far as lovely Damon songs go, there is one – Revolving Doors. If you like lovely Damon songs then the album’s worth buying just for that. If you like woozy, druggy Damon songs then get it for Little Plastic Bags and Amarillo. If you like communal sing-a-long Damon songs, there’s The Parish Of Space Dust. Bobby Womak fans will experience deep joy from Bobby In Phoenix (that one’s pretty great). But mainly this is an album for all you fans of noises and dicking about. You’ll love it.
