So low have our expectations fallen that we fully expect Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s new series Life’s Too Short - that’s just been given the green light from the Beeb - to be a succession of jokes about the star, Warwick Davies, being a dwarf, that will make us feel uncomfortable but won’t actually make us laugh. Will they prove us wrong?

The BBC have just released this video of Ricky, Stephen and Warwick.

It doesn’t tell you anything, other than that it’s a cross between The Office and Extras (backed up by the appearance of some notable celebs from the latter). The plot of this new mockumentary, such as it is, sees Warwick playing a “semi-fictional version of himself” running a talent agency called Dwarves For Hire. Subtle humour then. We’d love for all our apprehensions to be shattered with an exquisite and bittersweet study of human nature. We live in hope. Futile, naive hope.
