Wishing on a more exciting song

Every year, the X Factor finalists churn out a god awful group cover in the name of charity, which is lovely, but a viscious attack on our ears and the original song all the same. In the past, they've taken a hit at Mariah Carey's Hero, Michael Jackson's You Are Not Alone and David Bowie's Heroes. And because those choices just weren't mundane enough, this year they've really gone all out on the zzz front, choosing to cover Rose Royce's Wishing On A Star. And we've got lots of pictures from the recording for you to gawp at...

Look how well they've all perfected the 'laying-down-the-vocals' look.

Mouth agape, eyes scrunched, one hand aloft and the other unnecessarily clasped to one ear of the headphones. Amelia Lily has really nailed it... Sami Brookes on the other hand has got it terribly, terribly wrong.

It's nice that they've invited all the rejects back after brutally banishing them in the first week, but no doubt they'll do what they did with Wagner and co last year and drown out all of their vocals in the final cut. Tenner's bet that Janet Devlin and Craig Colton get all the limelight, and another tenner that Misha will take on the rap from Jay Z's version of the song.

Enough about the charity single anyway, that can wait until they mime it on the results show tomorrow. However, all we're concentrating on right now is tonight's live show, and how Johnny Robinson is going to take on this week's theme of 'Love and Heartbreak'. Expect sob stories, expect Someone Like You and expect lots of actual sobbing.

We can't wait.
